How to make a component in PROTEUS

1. Start ARES Professional.

2. Notice on the right bottom your scale.

Change your scale from “th” to “mm” by pressing the “m” key.

3. From the right panel select the pad mode which you want to have for your new component.

· Eg. C-40-15 denotes the diameter and the drill hole.

· You can also change the drill holes according to your need by selecting the “E” key.

4. Switch to the data sheet of the component that you want to make.

5. Place the pads by in ARES according to the datasheet.

6. In some places the pads will not be placed at the exact distance.

7. Go to View.

8. Select Snap 0.1mm, 0.5mm, 1 mm or 2.5 mm according to your need.

9. Now place the pads.

10. Keep the distance same between the pins of components.

11. Select the arrow tool at the left top and select the whole component.

12. Right click the component.

13. Select Make Package.

14. Give the name of the package, category, type and the sub category.

15. Save the package to library in a specific package component at the right.

AND THERE YOU HAVE A NEW COMPONENT!!!!!!

  2. you have given the method to create a new package ( or FOOTPRINT ) for a symbol in ISIS using ARES software. But to simulate its more difficult. you need to have a MOD file that you associate with the symbol in ISIS. also if you dont have a symbol to start with , as is usual for a NEW component that you want to use for which its not in the standard proteus libraries, you need to create the symbol too FIRST in ISIS, then allocate the package (also known as FOOTPRINT in proteus).
